Standards of Maintenance Bylaws can offer additional information on a landlord’s responsibility to repair and maintain rental property. These bylaws are created at the municipal level and therefore differ throughout the province. To see if your City has a Standards of Maintenance Bylaw (or a similar bylaw), visit TRAC’s webpage, Repairs and Maintenance. Depending on where you live, your City might be willing to send a Bylaw Officer to inspect your rental property, issue warnings and fines to your landlord, and otherwise enforce the bylaw.
